How should cryogenic deflashing media size be determined?

There is no universal size independent of the part and machine. Fine features usually start with smaller media, while thicker flash may need more impact energy. Surface marks, media circulation and machine stability must be checked together.

Size controls access and impact

Smaller particles reach narrow slots and complex corners more easily. Larger particles deliver more energy per impact. Evaluate flash removal and any change to the part surface at the same time.

Shape and machine settings also matter

Cylindrical and cubic media have different contact edges, while blast speed, wheel condition and loading change the actual impact. Compare adjacent grades under the same machine settings.

  • Start with two adjacent sizes
  • Keep machine settings consistent
  • Record yield and media consumption
