What media should be used to remove flash from rubber parts?

Rubber flash is commonly embrittled in a liquid-nitrogen environment and removed with low-temperature, impact-resistant cryogenic media. The media must remove the flash without damaging sealing faces, fine lips or the body of the part.

Which rubber parts suit cryogenic deflashing

Seals, diaphragms, boots and complex elastomer parts often have thin flash that is difficult to trim consistently by hand. Suitability depends on the low-temperature response of the flash compared with the part body.

Protect functional surfaces

Sealing lips, thin walls and precision mating surfaces need special attention. Sample validation should cover dimensions, surface finish, repeatability and material performance after the cold cycle.

  • Confirm flash thickness and root shape
  • Inspect sealing and thin-wall areas
  • Compare impact marks across media sizes
